There has to be motivation to get good results that is for sure. However, I think with time and some team building there are few dynamics that be formed to work. Creative teams should be created to perform something specific and nurtured in order to perform better. In that sense the first step in forming a team is bringing people with different backgrounds, even the ones that seem totally unrelated because you'll get some game changing points of view.
